Diversity is not the same as novelty btw!
Piano ballads (Cry, Camouflage)
RnB midtempos -
her whole career (Faded, You're Mine) - Nothing wrong with that!
Doowop/Motown (Make It Look Good)
Disco
sequel to I'm That Chick (You Don't Know What To Do) Other than being of the Disco genre, not really! I'm That Chick is a direct nod to Off The Wall, YDKWTD comes with a glamorous Donna-esque intro, sweeping strings and all.
Gospel
that wasn't needed (Heavenly) - But it literally was, it's the cathartic moment on the album that chronicles the most troubling period of her life of recent years. Way more than a random gospel moment for the sake of it
80s Power Ballad cover that
no one wanted (One More Try) - The same is said for the entirety of the Charmbracelet album but you don't see me frontin!
Contemporary Urban
that she's recycled since Migrate (Thirsty) - And managed to turn it from a generic club banger to a personal cry against her husband's mistreatment of her. Talk about evolution!

And E=MC2. .

The only thing reductive about the second half is One More Try tho! Heavenly, Camouflage, Money, Meteorite are all necessities in the arc of the album and career highlights. I mean these are tracks that actually pertain to what was happening to Mariah at the time, if they're reductive what would you call Mariah's other songs?
It would make perfect sense for her 14th and oldest album to be her truest actually. Since that comes with age, confidence, musical maturity, etc. It's her being able to step back and take a look at her career, her marriage, her kids, and come to terms with everything. E=MC2 is also a very free and laidback album. Butterfly is very Mariah but I mean we all know she was still struggling with Tommy n co back then, was still making remixes on the side to better express her artistry, etc
I'm not trying to force you to suddenly love MIAM btw, I just have the need to tug @ the people who come for it
