Yup. I've brought this up in several debates I've had with religious people. Most, if not all of them think that atheists have no moral compass. The pedophilia within churches is almost such a taboo discussion, though. Much like racism to a certain degree. They know it exists but they're hesitant to go into a in depth conversation about it.

At least with the Christians I've tried to have this conversation with. They shy away from it. I find that very disconcerting. Makes me wonder if they knew for certain if a pastor at their church was molesting boys....would they even say anything?

Honestly all believers are awful. We live in a system imposed by the ruling class, that values believers and treats non believers as 2nd class citizens. It's a system they cannot opt out of due to generations of subconscious bias imposed on them by the government and the media. All believers hate atheists and it's not up to us to explain to them how we have morals. It's not our job to validate ourselves to them. Yes every single believer has an internal subconscious bias against atheists and it's up to them to realise that and change and encourage other believers to change. They have to prove to me that they are not authoritarian bigots, because recent history shows that they in fact are.

Believers hate atheists cause they challenge certainties believers have about the order of life.

Religion can be so narcissistic that way. Atheists only position is: let's take time to evaluate the evidence and come to reasonable conclusions about the world we live in. The theist rebuttal is: I don't need evidence, I already know all that's true about this life, death, and the next life. It's such a self-serving narrative. And whenever you attempt to remove people from any self-serving, emotionally charged belief system, you receive a lot of blowback.

Atheists just have to know it's nothing to do with them and everything to do with theists. For example, if they think they can't be moral without a divine rule book, it just shows you their insecurity about their basest human desires and the trouble they have in navigating them. The rest of us don't have that problem.

No way. That's so sad.

I feel like some religious people are sooo lost. Even following God, they're trying to compensate for something. The reason why I stopped believing was because I didn't want to feel like I was compensating. If I worshipped God, I wanted it to be with an open heart and a sound mind. Not because I felt guilty about being this way or another.

It's why even though I'm more agnostic than atheist, organized religion will NEVER be the tea. There's too much human dogma infused into it that threatens to drown out the spirituality aspect of it for me to ever want to give it time.

People need to love themselves first and then openly welcome God. Not seek out God as a reason to love themselves.
