But why? Why don't group anniversaries follow the Korean age numbering system? Is it only used for people and nothing else (wedding anniversaries for example)?
I'm sorry for being so slow on the uptake but I just don't see the advantages of using the KAS. I mean in
this article it states one benefit being;
Quote:
This makes everyone born the same year as you the same age as you; thus, for age-related business they are your “friend” (친구, chingu). Friend, here, is used to mean they are the same age as you, or donggap (동갑). Generally, that means you can speak in the lowest politeness of speaking, banmal (반말) to all of your friends. But, beware, as many a drunken fight has broken out over age relations amongst “friends” by age, but a difference of birth month. But, for most sober occasions, you can just assume anyone born the same year as you is your donggap, and your friend.

Which is pretty nifty in such a seniority based culture, but in that same paragraph it shows how certain individuals still prioritise birth months to exert their seniority of their classmates.
Is it culturally insensitive of me to say that they should scrap the Confucian age system when they've already brought in the 'western' age system?
