Even Sia gets grouped with the main pop girls.

Except Ariana is not a main pop girl
We obviously know the main ones from the 80s and 90s so I'll just start with late 90s
Legends: Beyonce, Britney, Alicia, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Jay z, Kanye
Icons: Xtina, Pink, Avril, Kelly Clarkson (deserves to be a legend), Nelly furtado, Fergie
Legend/Icon: JLO
next tier:
Adele is a unique legend but Taylor is at the helm of iconic legends in the making, Rihanna
Icons: Katy, gaga, Maroon 5 who are undeniable icons some of which are headed in the legendary lane.
then current tier: Bieber, Drake, Nicki Bruno, Miley, the red head dude, ariana, demi, selena, the dude from one direction who are the becoming or early icons that need to prove they eventually become legends

Britney is a tabloid legend like Kim Kardashian. That much is undeniable. She'll be referenced in the future, but not for her musical output. We can shade her, but let's not get it twisted. She's done enough to be remembered for a while.
|
But she will.
Britney is embedded into pop culture but not just for late 90s/00s fashion or for her downfall
She ACTUALLY has a catalog of iconic songs, videos and performances.
Now she might not be known for her ARTISTRY but she will be known for her catalog of memorable pop music

Britney's breakdown kinda seems forgotten tbh.
Like it was obviously HUGE in the 2000s, but I feel like nobody has talked about it in forever
|
That's because she overcame and is living a happier healthier life. There are no signs of her regressing back to the bad behavior so people will NEVEr forget her crazy period but they are just happy she's alive and doing well and became a sign of overcoming obstacles in addition to her career.

True. But the name Britney Spears is still so ubiquitous in pop culture.
When she dies, for example, you can just imagine the nostalgia that's going to spill over into her obituaries. She's a pop culture staple.

Yes, I imagine BOMT, Oops, Stronger, Slave, Toxic, Gimme more, Womanizer, till the world ends to get the most spins.
Cult classics like sometimes, lucky, not a girl circus and everytime...lowkey Work b will get some love.
Her videos and performances will be referenced. the outfits to BOMT, Oops, VMAs, the kiss will be referenced and then her downfall and comeback.
Doubt booty juice or crossroads will be referenced but Vegas will be referenced.
It's more than *** pics from the paps, it's music, entertainment, performances, videos, sex symbol imagery, the controversy, the breakdown, the comeback and so on and so forth.
It's really not easily to stand the test of time and even harder when you fall from grace.
I don't get how people don't understand that no one will ever be able to survive the good bad and ugly of fame and have the longevity without being an iconic legend. She resonates on so many levels.
But she's looked at now as a nostalgia act until she actually makes a legit hit in this new era of pop.

No one will ever forget the breakdown.
They just won't need to address it since it's almost been 10 years and she has not falling victim again.
They'd much rather reference her music, videos, performances or the fact that she's lasted the good bad and ugly parts of fame and is a survivor.
No one cares about her partying, *** pics and poor choices of the past...well except SYGers
