Omg if that number holds then Passengers is actually a bomb
And audience reaction seems very mixed so it won't even leg out
What a horrific failure and definitive proof that outside of very select people (Melissa McCarthy, Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington), Hollywood is DONE as a star-making machine. Not even the two most hyped new superstars in film of recent years could put butts in seats. It's all about brand names and franchises now. Hopefully this won't mean the end of adult, high concept sci-fi. Arrival is a hit after all.
This is SO embarassing for Hollywood though. This was supposed to be a slam dunk. A hyped script that topped the blacklist that fell right into a currently popular niche. Two new, exciting huge stars. An acclaimed director. And all the hoopla over JLaw getting paid $20 ****ing million dollars. She has a lot of upcoming projects that are banking on her being a draw....but she's not.
I was kind of wanting to go see it for daddy but if it's really awful I'll see Moana instead.
