People trashing WEEKND, but forgot about STALE CANDY and it's existence. I see what's going on here.
Nobody trashed The Weeknd, I trashed Daft Punk and their generic productions and nobody could ever forget about Hard Candy which reminds me, I had no idea how much people love 4 Minutes until earlier this year. It is truly shocking.
For a song that's meant to be a Disco throwback, GT lacks the bass-line and layering to carry it over the five minute mark. It's cute until after the first chorus, then it just kinda goes limp.
Honestly for an album that relied pretty heavily on Disco imagery, Confessions doesn't do a very good job of capturing the Disco essence. The really great disco music could be about a really sad or bittersweet subject matter, but turn into this beautiful euphoric dance number. Confessions is split between the mostly meaningless bops and the less dancey introspective stuff. It is a great album, just not a good disco album when you compare it to Donna Summer's albums or some of the best singles of the 70s.

I mean as with anything else "Madonna does ____" will never be the same as anyone else doing it. That's one of the things I love about it. Plus it's also not a classic disco album, it pulls a lot from 00s dance and lowkey propelled the nu-disco wave.
