I don't think its selfish to follow the system, get educated, spend thousands (and be in debt) on an education so you can be a contributing member of society and not want pretty much a third of your income going towards many of whom are able-bodied to work but don't. The rich don't have to suffer this problem because they still have enough to live comfortably while the middle class just gets screwed over. To make it worse, I've seen so many middle-class parents struggle to afford college for the kids and not quality for financial aid while their are literally illegal immigrants getting free aid. Like it's almost as if the middle class is being punished for working hard and investing into society
People have tragedies in their lives, deal with difficulties and sometimes need assistance from the government, but it's absurd how many have the capacity to get a job, get educated, and don't. I get most of this site is made up of teenagers with little life experience and want to be as PC as possible (I was the same at one point), but trust me, when you're a working adult struggling to make ends meet and then you're at the grocery store watching someone with an EBT card drive away in a Mercedes, your feelings will change lol.

You really need to step out of the bubble.
Most people who collect government assistance have no choice in a lot of cases. There are no jobs where they live (at least jobs that can support them or their families), they cannot afford higher education, etc. Sometimes living on welfare and food stamps is the better option for most of those people. Middle class Americans can hardly find a good job, how do you think it is for people in poorer areas?

Are there people who game the system? Of course there are. But that's not the case for most people.
Not everyone lives in middle class parts of America where there are at least some opportunities to escape poverty. Besides most of your tax payer money is going to fund "investigations" into Hillary Clinton, corporate welfare, our oversized military, etc at this point.
You mention the struggles of the middle class, mention that's why they don't vote democrat or support the poor, when it's republicans who have destroyed this country dating back to Reagan.
It's one thing to be gullible and to want to believe republicans, but it's another thing to be ignorant after there is proof of what happens when republicans are in office.
