she needed a stronger character, and she chose to be the over-sexualized rap diva who was all about her ass and appealing to the male gaze. + the beyonce association and she basically had a golden ticket back to the A list.
also, iggy's self-destruction as a meme made nicki look like a legend in comparison

This is what I was trying to say. 10/10 for the compact and competent response.

I think TPP era was necessary for really establishing herself after her kind of flopping a biT in 2013.
She just shouldn't have hyped it as her classic.
Ideal pre-album era for me would've been:
Soundcloud releases (+ Lookin' Ass) throughout the year
Bang Bang release in August
***Flawless release in August, performed at the VMAs
Anaconda premiere at the VMAs, video dropping that night
All Things Go dropped in September with a powerful MV
TPP dropped in late September alongside the movie
Then post-album focus on Urban (Only, Feeling Myself, Buy a Heart, Favorite, etc.).
She could have had like 5+ T10s from the era if it was executed correctly.
She definitely would have sold a lot more.

So these other bitches that only did rap and now they're washed, and they're living in, you know, low income housing - is that winning? Just so that a ***** in the street can give me a ****ing dap? The same ****** that didn't buy my album any ****ing way, that downloaded the ****? Get the **** out of here!

This discussion brings me back to this. I don't think Nicki should be trying to appeal to the Hip-Hop head demographic at this point (she tried that with TRU/her 2013 features that didn't chart period, and while she got praise from them, that's all they gave her, praise.
It's far too late in her career (she's going to be a decade-in in two years come 2017), and they never were the ones that supported Nicki in the first place. The ones who always bring up Monster only because Jay and Kanye were on it are the worst, too.
All Nicki needs to do is have great production, spit some cute lyrics, be somewhat cohesive, and everything else will follow, because her demographic likes what they like from her. Her last album is her most acclaimed to date. Things could be worse.
At the end of the day, commercial success is more important to Nicki than respect from Hip-Hop heads. It's why Iggy had her shook, because she was a white female rapper with a ton of marketing potential that was getting #1 hits. She knew Iggy didn't have the skill, but she couldn't deal with Iggy one-upping her the way she did that summer.

It was a transition album which is true, but due to her painting it as the next Blueprint type album, it caused us all to expect that. She really should just stop hyping albums in general & just release them.
Don't call them classics, best albums, iconic or anything. Just let the music speak for itself. Her mouth is where the era ****s up every time.

Well, I'm glad she is being legitimately silent about this upcoming album. Although I'm always here for album talk. I can't stand silence

That quote is one of the realist things she's ever said.
Problem is she wants the mainstream success AND the Hip Hop head's respect but doesn't quite know how to get both. TPP showed that clear & day.

Honestly.
Especially since this is her last album before having a child. She kinda has to have it be successful, no matter what type of music she drops.
Commercial success is more ingrained in Hip-Hop culture than anything. It's why I'm sure Drake would rather knowingly release his worst work with VIEWS, because no matter what, you can't deny the success.

That's understandable, but hopefully she doesn't try to give us that & get mad at how they hype Remy as the better emcee. Because they will.

Um.
Didn't she say she wanted a child after NM5, that way her last album can be from a mother's POV?
She said she wanted to get engaged/married after NM4.

I think once you get so deep into mainstream success as a rapper (and start having your work spun on Z100 and ****), you automatically lose that Hip-Hop respect, or you're seen as more Pop than Hip-Hop.
Things are different NOW, but that's only because Hip-Hop is officially back on Pop radio again. But there was no way to really balance that back in 2010-2014 when Dance music/Pop ran everything.

I'm sure she won't care, just like how Drake laughs when people say Kendrick and Cole are the better emcees. When you're on top, you really don't care until someone is at your level.
It's why she probably was so frustrated in early-2014 when she was spitting nothing but fire and nothing was sticking, yet Iggy was all the rage.
Remy has no commercial viability. She's releasing a joint album with Fat Joe. Until she starts seeing Nicki's success, I personally don't think Nicki will care. And I'm sure that's hard to hear, but that's how Nicki is (you saw the video I posted the other day).

I 1000000% see Nicki having a child a year or so after getting married. It's what she wants the most, and I get the feeling she doesn't want to begin motherhood too late into her 30s.
I also see Nicki buying out her contract from Cash Money and releasing her last album through her own label (like Bey and Rih just did) distributed thru Republic.

This goes back to the Hot 97 mess. Lil Wayne didn't lose the hip hop respect when he jumped on Motivation with Kelly Rowland. Motivation was played every minute on the iHeartRadio and Z100Y. Drake is more like a pop-rap artist and STILL have a HUGE hip hop community fan base today. Just because Nicki decide to do the same thing doesn't change anything.
We may have agreed on many things but this isn't one of them.

Huh?
1. Motivation was a feature, and I wasn't referring to features, considering Kendrick Lamar has respect but he's currently on Maroon 5 and Sia singles.
2. Lil Wayne's "respect level" peaked in like 2010. Tha Carter 4 opened with almost 1M in 2011 and How To Love was mega successful on Pop radio, but he wasn't seeing the "respect" that he saw prior. He also was kinda releasing stuff that wasn't as good as his past material, but that's besides the point.
You're kinda conflating respect and success, and it's random, especially when you're referring to Lil Wayne, who was out when the charts were almost exclusively Urban.
And that Hot 97 argument doesn't even apply to this conversation.
