There is another perk to holding a gym. Once every 21 hours, if you go to the shop you will be able to get a bonus. The bonus you will receive is dependant on how many gyms you currently have Pokémon within. For each gym you have a Pokémon in, you will get 10 PokéCoins, as well as 500 Stardust. The more gyms you have, the bigger the bonus.

This **** didn't happen for me I swear i clicked on that button and i got only 10 coins which made me hate this game for a very long time I'm gonna try it again tomorrow

Or does your pokemon need to stay for more than 21 hours? If that is true then no it didnt

They could do it the same way as Eevee, randomly or if they want to have Easter Eggs name your Tyrogue "Jackie Chan" for Hitmonchan or Bruce Lee for Hitmonlee and just leave it for a random choice between the 3.

but that's so frustrating especially since most of the split evolutions aren't exactly common pokemon

I wish there was some way to know what eggs you're incubating. Cause idk if I'm incubating 5km eggs I got before or after the event + I currently don't wanna spend money on more incubators.
