i don't' think it was changed directly to the PI. RedOne said song was scrapped as lead before she even recorded it.
This is what I think happened: through 14 and 15 she did some songs with redone and by herself, these were probably only acoustic demos. And redone was suggested by the label. Then by the end of the year she met with mark and with him she finally realized what direction she wanted to take, they went through all material she had and kept what fit and scrapped the rest. They played album to the label and they didn't see lead single on the material they had so they instructed her to create something for lead single which lead to creation of PI.
