I don't play a lot of mobile games so idk, but when I did play them in the past, I did so on the subway with my internet turned off

Consoles are selling just as well as ever despite the industry supposedly on it's "last generation", and games that were considered threats haven't been making headlines for ~2 years (Candy Crush/Temple Run) to ~4 years (Angry Birds/PvZ/Doodle Jump). Mobile gaming has finally established itself as a niche where games that aren't practical for proper games consoles can thrive.
If games studios stood their grounds and didn't make games for mobiles then there wouldn't be a problem imo. Keeping series exclusive to consoles is what sells the consoles, just like first party IPs were always what made Nintendo successful.
I think this 'compromise' with the mobile gaming industry is going to ruin console gaming, or at least hurt it more than if the gaming industry left it to do what it wanted.

I think you're right in stating that the market isn't as competitive as it was made out to be at one point, but I don't see it hurting console gaming. A certain group of people might enjoy Super Mario Run, but as long as mainline games (like Galaxy) are only available on consoles, I don't see why console sales would be hurt. They're completely different experiences. If anything, going into mobile just helps Nintendo's visibility because now casual fans or older people might play SMR when there's no way they'd ever get a Nintendo console.
