In terms of touring, Beyoncé is bigger than both ever were combined.
In terms of sales, Beyoncé will never be able to catch-up or even come close because of how differently music is consumed now vs how it was before
In terms of cultural impact, Beyoncé wins, flawless victory.
In terms of acclaim, Beyoncé surpassed both because neither had a song as acclaimed as Crazy in Love or an album as acclaimed as BEYONCÉ.
In terms of respect, Beyoncé wins since Mariah & Whitney were NEVER taken seriously. The amount of jokes and shade thrown at Whitney prior to her death... She was a joke to the media and people were constantly shading/dragging her for her antics and calling her a crackhead. As for Mariah, she never got the respect as a legend until extremely recently, but prior to that, she was constantly mocked, ridiculed for little things and not taken seriously either. Not to the extent of Janet, Whitney & Madonna, but the emotional breakdown, 11 years into her career, was HUGE. She was bashed and bashed; something Beyoncé never got.
In terms of impact, I honestly think there's no way to compare. It's like comparing impact Aretha made vs impact Mariah made. Aretha birthed Mariah, so everyone after Mariah was influenced by the Queen of Soul, which is how this goes. Beyoncé influenced Ariana, Tinashe, Zara, and practically every vocalist/entertainer in some way. Similarly, they'd be influenced by Janet & Mariah & Whitney ALONG with Beyoncé.
At this current state, Beyoncé doesn't have the impact and influence that I Will Always Love You & Vision of Love will ever have and that's totally okay.
In 30-40 years, I think she'll be among the legends and at the same level. I think comparing impact is kinda stupid honestly. At a certain state, everyone is a legend and you can't really say who is more legendary and who is less legendary because it varies in each and every community and person to person.
Person A might think Beyoncé is more of a legend than Mariah but Person B might think Beyoncé isn't. Objectively, Beyoncé will never reach the influence of Mariah & Whitney because of their seniority, but in years to come, who knows. She's definitely a name no one will ever forget, and that's the most important aspect.

Not even halfway there
Doesn't she still close her tours with Halo, aka her last hit?

And Mariah closes hers with Hero, a song released 23 years ago. You tried it though.

Amazing comment!
Well thought and objective... Why can't more people make comments like this?

Why should anyone surpass anyone else?
They have had their moment. Now it’s Beyoncé. And she is the Mariah/Whitney of her generation, and taking into account the other stars of this generation, she’s possibly above where they were in comparison to everyone else.

um sis. touring was not relevant to pop girls in the 80s/90s same way that album sales are less relevant now. You cant just dismiss Bey's lower album sales are 'sign of the times' but ignore that in terms of W & Ms touring receipts their peaks. That's Trump politics.

Is she really?
Yes, Beyonce's brand is powerful. But the business opportunities Beyonce has been afforded are due to people, like Whitney Houston, clearing the path for her. In the late 80s, Whitney established her own production and management company, Nippy Inc. She had endorsement deals with Coke, Sanyo, AT&T, at a time when celebs were very much chastised for taking such deals. The fact that she was a black woman with endorsement deals made it even worse for her. Fast-forward 30 years later, and things like this are the norm.
If you want to know how powerful Whitney's brand was, just check how thirsty Hollywood was for her. They were literally writing roles that black women were never afforded or given just so they could get Whitney in their films.
In addition, Beyonce benefits from a lot of things that Whitney and Mariah did not have back in their heyday, so her brand SHOULD be more powerful, especially for a star of her caliber.

Not only is this very moot, seeing as how they are two completely different kinds of performers, but this has nothing to do with cultural significance and legacy.

Likewise, for touring, there weren't as many stadiums and arenas back then as there are now. And there's this thing called inflation. Kind of happens every year and explains why concert tickets are much pricier now than they were 20-30 years ago.

Or not. Beyonce is more relevant to this current culture because she's part of this generation. Overall, she in no way has contributed to culture as much as Whitney and Mariah, nor has she had more impact. She's simply more visible because it's her generation.

Beyonce has never been bashed? So that Destiny's Child debacle when the lineup kept changing due to all the drama? The way the media came at her when she was pregnant and her dress folded?
You really need to differentiate between industry respect and media respect. One of them is important, the other is not. And for the important one, Whitney and Mariah win again.

Yet you clearly thought that there was a way to compare cultural impact and acclaim. How funny.

But you said she has more cultural impact than them. All three ladies are singers and whatever impact they have on culture primarily comes from their music. So if Bey has never had the impact of an IWALY or VOL, how is her cultural impact>>> theirs? Hmmm....

Comparing impact is stupid, but comparing CULTURAL impact isn't? Ok.

Clearly you do, seeing as how according to you, Mariah and Whitney have never been taken seriously and aren't as acclaimed artist as Beyonce, in addition to lacking her cultural impact.
You're so all over the place here. You don't even know what you're saying.

I love Mariah and Whitney and don’t think she’s surpassed them, but has met their legendary statuses. Still there are a few things to clear up about your retort.

Okay so .. they are equal in that regard? I’m sure Whiteny/Mariah would have had bigger tours today than they had in the 80/90s, and Beyoncé certainly would have been selling huge album numbers in 1991.

She changed the way the public viewed feminism, she has courses taught about her, she raised huge awareness for BLM, she has a word in the dictionary, many of her songs contain lyrics that are now part of the cultural lexicon (“to the left”, “put a ring on it”, “I woke up like this”), her DC singing style has impacted almost all of modern pop-n-b, and extended past just r-n-b in the likes of iconic singers like Britney and Jennifer.
Yes, this is her generation, so?

But Beyoncé has both. Did you not see all the threads about how the Grammys are praising her, have you not seen the countless legends praising her? There’s so much more.

Culture is more than music, and picking out a few songs that have more impact than Beyoncé’s also doesn’t take away her musical impact. Music was much more of a monoculture back in the 80s/90s. Of course one song is not going to have the same impact now. Does any song now have the same impact of IWALY?
