On the other hand, people of color make up a major part of the democratic base but the democratic party is overwhelmingly white (only one black democrat in Senate, Obama basically the only poc party leader). Obviously, they should pick a candidate based on politics rather than appearances, but it would be to the party's benefit to start helping a more diverse coalition of people rise through the party ranks.

Well no. It shouldn't be the priority. But if they are good and likable candidates... I don't think the Democratic party acknowledging women and minorities as suitable for office is a bad thing.

You've been saying this ("We don't need minorities to run!!") a lot in other threads and it's actually quite a weird mindset to have. Obama ran and won because he was a well educated, experienced, prudent, well-spoken and inspiring human. Hillary ran after him because she was the MOST QUALIFIED person in the history of modern presidents to run.

These aren't just dud minorities they're throwing out. This is not a charity. Never has been. These are top of the class, can go head to head and even surpass white males-type candidates. The fact that they happen to black and a woman shouldn't factor so heavily. And it certainly shouldn't be disqualifying for them like you suggest.

I have always laughed at people who think that HRC and WJC are just with each other for her to become president. Sure he cheated( maybe HRC doesn't like sex after all) but I really do think that they cannot live without each other....as people in the hill say, they are partners in everything, they are best friend and they never get tired of talking about life and politics together.

What the party needs to focus on is an actually progressive candidate. I have a feeling the era of middle politics is done. And that's what Hillary represented with all her flip flopping. The country is looking for a new radical(ish) direction to go in. Hillary's loss against Obama should have clued the DNC in the first time.

People are wary of establishment politics. From the very beginning, people were skeptical of the Bush/Clinton dynasty being allowed to proceed. It just doesn't feel American. I'm actually starting to believe Bernie had a better chance against Trump cause the baggage wasn't there. And people would have had to evaluate him on his policies. Trumps issues of tax returns and business interests would also probably have been more thoroughly tested.

Then if we are going to go by TYT / Bernie style progressive then almost 80% of the dem rising stars are HRC....

Gilibrand, Booker etc. I honestly think that Booker(even though he has taken the most money off the banks) is the one who has a chance to reconcile the Obama coalition in 2020 and win , not Kamala ( she is going to loose bad)... Gilibrand, as everyone knows, is indeed a minnie HRC (Lots of flip flops, close to big money , taken money etc blah blah blah ) but I really do think she is a lovely person , I like her.

I think America loves a new face. That's why George Bush and Obama and Trump won and why Al Gore and Hillary lost even though the last two would have probably been better. America's already seen them in power for long. It's not even an establishment thing anymore as Obama is as establishment as one can get yet his approval rating keeps on rising. I think people overstate just how much of a change election this was when he lost the popular vote, won thanks to a razor thin margin win in many states and the incumbent president is seeing the best approval rating in his life. It was really all about Hillary having too much baggage (Benghazi investigations, emails server, hacked DNC emails, hacked Podesta emails, Bernie bringing up her old quotes in debates, Clinton Foundation nonsense etc.)

How does this make sense when Gore and Clinton both won the popular vote?


They lost because of unfortunate Electoral College circumstances, not because they weren't "new faces."
