Rih has always said her music reflects where's she's at in her life. Now I don't think she's depressed/ sad 24/7 but I do believe because her experiences in love haven't been the greatest that's it's easier for her to sway towards darker sounds in music.
I mean that's one of my biggest issues with LOUD was the fact that she was pretending. It wasn't genuine... Glad she finally admitted years later that over the top bubbly persona/image wasn't how she truly felt. But commercially that image was "needed" so I get it.
Going forward is a toss up for me. Rih has become very hard to read and so unpredictable that I have no clue what she might do next in terms of sound or imagery. But that's what makes it exciting to be a fan, if anything the growth personal & musical makes it all worth while.
I think Rih is a good storyteller. ...Songwriters who worked with her say the songs are written after having conversations with her. The Dream, PND, and even the lady who helped write the poem on Anti all say the collaborative process came about by having simple conversations about her life.
She's good at giving speeches on the spot and she wrote the preface for her tattoo artist book so she's definitely articulate but perhaps others are better at getting her story across . Idk
Regardless I don't doubt her creative input in the music creation, even w her fashion meeting she brings the mood boards and presentations.
Edit: & on her first album she's credited a lot so I highly doubt she was buying fake credits back then. So i think she's capable but opts not to.
Rih could write a good song by herself, but idk if she has the confidence to review it without getting help from someone else, because i could see the media going in on her if the song was bad
