Homosexuality doesn't oppress anyone while religion has been responsible for the oppression of so many. Many LGBT+ people (including myself) have a great deal of pent up, rational frustration at religious institutions because of how we have been treated in them, where's the same can't be said for the homophobe exhibiting irrational frustration at LGBT+ people who literally do not affect them in any way.

OT: A person's right to religious freedom should be respected, yes... So long as it doesn't impede upon the rights of others to be free from their beliefs (particularly in regards to the government).

It also (in my opinion) doesn't justify the right to say abrasive things towards LGBT+ people. Homophobia under the guise of religion is still homophobia and if you're spouting such ideas then you aren't immune to being dragged by anyone who hears them.

Even the idea of religious freedom independent of the state as opposed to a theocracy was preposterous and unthinkable to the political leaders of the time when the Anabaptists introduced it in the 16th century for fear of it leading to social anarchy.

I don't get this obsession that we must automatically "respect" everyone's personal spiritual beliefs. I fully believes in everyone's right to practice and hold their own beliefs, but don't see why I'm required to "respect" it. I don't know why I should respect any religion, but my particular gripe is with Islam. They still execute people for being gay, and 90% of the muslim population believes gay people deserve to be killed. I'd even say I'm Islamophobic (scared of Islamic people) and why the F*CK wouldnt I be.

Any gay person should be scared of muslims who are moving from their intensely religious countries and into Europe - they DO believe you should be killed, make no mistake.
