It sold 1.5M in the U.S. and 2.7M WW not to mention it did so well in the states in sales, radio & billbord all on its own, it didn't have a single televised performance and managed to go top 5 while other singles need countless promo slots including a high profile award show and a discount in it's run to chart inside the top 10, it's terrible low budget music video that was an apple exclusive for a month and has no replay value whatsoever didn't even have the original track in it nor did it even feature ASAP yet it still managed to somehow garner over 300M views on YouTube.
Clearly GFY > STS = SOL
|
1) Sales dropped 40% since 2015. Not to mention GFY was released 2-3 weeks before Apple Music. Sales were totally different back them. If you want to compare their sales, minus at least 40% of GFY sales and then it might be fair
2) GFY is the first single while STS is the third single. It's harder for a third single to do better than 1st single. But STS did outpeak GFY in all big markets .
3) STS reached #4 WITHOUT a discount.
4) Since you dare to bring UK here, STS spent 10 weeks inside Top 15 (and still in Top 15) and has sold 441k. GFY didn't even spend a week inside Top 20, let alone Top 15. And you dare to talk about longevity?
5) In US, how many weeks did GYF spend in Top 5? 1 or 2? Because it looks like STS will spend multiple weeks there.
6) And you want to compare their YT views?

For now GFY and SOL are still bigger. There still a large sales advantage and that's fact that they generated more revenue.
I think STS will pass em at the end of its run tho (in revenue not in sales).

What kind of delusional adjustments you get? Bigger hit is a bigger hit, promo included doesn't matter.
Side To Side was MUCH bigger than both Selena singles.

Any other answer is simply denial of Ariana's success.

So I calculated the overall revenue (using the HDD formula) and STS will pass SOL in some weeks and regarding to GFY it will depend on the spotify and video plays legs after the single ends its run:
GFY
Spotify: 334,904,890 ( $1,925,703)
Youtube: 60,104,771 + 339,464,918 + 28.374.665 = 427,944,354 ($2,460,680)
Pure Sales: 2,700,000 ($ 2,457,000)
Total Revenue: $ 6,843,383
SOL
Spotify: 251,496,589 ($1,446,105)
Youtube: 67,890,457 + 275,027,710 = 342,918,167 ($1,971,779)
Pure Sales: 2,100,000 ($1,911,000)
Total Revenue: $5,328,884
STS
Spotify: 246,194,376 ($1,415,618)
Youtube: 401,404,336 + 31,749,974 = 433,154,310 ($2,490,637)
Pure Sales: 1,320,000 ($1,201,200)
Total Revenue: $5,107,455

Selena's singles could ONLY make just a bit more than Side To Side given how much more radio loves Selena than Ariana? I'm frankly shocked. Even with any accusations of shady radio deals, Selena *is* radio's darling. Odd how her music is played more than it seems to be consumed and Ariana's consumed more than radio will play her.
If only Ariana had the relationship Selena has with airplay.

These accusations about the airplay are only from Arianators cause they can't take Selena doing well. Selena radio plays goes according with callout scores. GFY and SOL had great callouts(and sales) and got good airplay and btw STS will be passing GFY on airplay in 2-3 days w a little over 1/3 of the sales, HTM had average callout and got average airplay(barely passed 100M A.I.) and KEWK had bad callout and flopped on airplay. Her songs are being bought and streamed like shown by the revenue and the 3.3M units for the era, I don't know what about "not consumed" you mean. Only thing Selena is missing is WW promo/airplay/impact.

STS really doesnt seem like that big of a deal anywhere except for on this forum. It seems like a pretty moderate hit. Ive genuinely yet to even hear it in the outside world like....atrl is really doing the most with this song and idk why that is. And its not like i dislike Ariana or anything, I prefer her to Selena, I just dont understand why you're all kind of on this like random bandwagon right now and trying to treat this song like its this monumental moment in her career and is one of the biggest hits of the year or something. its just like there.
