I think this is why the GOP finally embraced him.
When TrUMP approached Kasich with the plan of him as CEO while Kasich could determine all policy, that obviously got back to the GOP leaders. They seized the chance to put one of their own on the ticket to ensure they could push their various agendas forward. All Trump has to do is avoid illegal **** but even if he gets caught it's a win/win for them. They smoothly impeach someone from their own party, appear "reasonable" to the electorate for not protecting him, and President Pence emerges.
I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the GOP's go-to plan. They did it with Bush so why not do it again? If their electorate continues to go against establishment candidates they'll just support a voter-backed buffoon with one of their own on the inside.
