Honestly......I just want the black caricature part gone.....soot pete with normal lips and no curls is enough and how it should be..........but the people holding on to it wont let it happen without a fight.
We need to fight for CHANGE.....otherwise we will probably not be heard....

Also, the people attacking it aren't open to any interpretation of Zwarte Piet but their own (historically wrong) interpretation... both sides are acting quite childish, but the people against Zwarte Piet have no one but themselves to blame for that...

Just change his appearance, im sure The afro/ brown paint / big red lips can be avoided. No offense but this looks like a caricature of Black people, and they have every reasons to be offended. Just because Europe hasn't lived the same History as the US, doesn't mean Europe isn't racist. Colonialism alone was against POC.

Literally no one said to get rid of the entire holiday. Just get rid of the black face paint, big red lips and afro wig and wear the costume in your OWN skin. Why is that so hard for you guys to grasp? Amsterdam is already doing it, why can't the rest of y'all? There's nothing wrong with the holiday. It's the caricature that poses a problem.
And everyone in here defending the blackface still has YET to answer the question of WHY it's so important to you to be able to dress up in blackface, don an afro wig and wear big puffy red lips for this holiday. What significance does that costume have in the folklore of this holiday? Why do you feel like your holiday is RUINED if you're forced to be yourselves with your own white skin and your own hair? We could ask the same question of why it is so important for you to prevent people from doing it when it is not related to something historically racist like in the US. I'm defending them because I don't like cultural imperialism in any shape or form, whether it's the West telling people how they should exercise their religion or America exporting its broken race-relations abroad.
