Soon it'll be racist for white people to hire people of colour...

Where does the afro/curly hair come from?

I'd like to see your hair if it's in warm places all the time (chimneys, as they are styled after Italian chimney sweeps)... I know mine goes all frizzy/curly...
But what does that have to do with anything? Children don't go like "Oh, a black person is inferior to white people and is being extorted", I never even linked them to black people as a kid, we are actually raised with the idea that Sinterklaas is an old man that needs help and Piet is his friend, black from all the soot, helping him out... They are a lot darker than black people, hence why black people in the Antilles/Surinam also paint themselves black to play Piet...

They are darker than black people because it's a caricature of black people. Black features are being exaggerated. That's why it's considered offensive.

1. black pete is based on slavery
2. you cant dress up as another race, thats racist
3. It fuels racism....ive been called black pete by mean white people in school
4. Some black people are hurt and offended by this travesty and feel like they are not being heard, although REAL change is finally starting to happen

The US should stop imposing its values on other countries. Even a majority of black dutch people in the West Indies don't mind this holiday.

Reminds of the old British racist depiction of black people. The Golliwog.
Thankfully that's over now.
Even the excuses for it when people were told it was racist seem similar.

No, that's an American invention. Stop imposing American social rules on the rest of the world and stop making entire world responsible for the ****ery that the US had been doing to black people for hundreds of years. Y'all aren't the navel of the world.
To sum up - if a country doesn't have a history of colonialism/a hurtful history behind blackface, then then blackface is as offensive as whiteface. And kindly stay away from their culture and customs.

Right, like are we forgetting the role The Netherlands played in colonialism and slave trade? This is not something that was born in or that is unique to America.

I would LOVE for change, but the fact that majority of this country don't see the problem in this
still, very happy that the bigger institutions (like RTL) have not been using this traditional form

Yeah, that's what I mean. The majority of the population is still backwards and racist, but its good to see how some major institutions (like RTL and certain cities) are pushing for change. The truth of the matter is, there is no future for Zwarte Piet in his current form, but it'll be interesting to see how long people can resist the inevitable.

Educate yourself please. Jan Schenkman who invented Zwarte Piet in 1850 was a member of the Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen which was one of the most anti-slavery organisations in the Netherlands at the time.

Yeah, we should totally have the same values when it comes to racism as we had back in 1850.

Dutch history is filled with racism so this should not be an excuse.
