I am German, I don't think it's actually that hard to understand. And our family has friends living in America, being American citizens, their kids speak English fluently and yet, they are not treated like Mr Smith or Ms Miller.

Germany was racist/xenophobic for only 12-13 years (from 1933 to 1945) while America has been racist for hundreds of years.
