NU'EST got the promo. What ended them was the emergence of SHINee, who were sort of a successful flop until the "Sherlock" promo which moved them up a tier. NU'EST, being essentially a gayer SHINee, was made redundant. And their me-too concepts like "Action" and "Hello" among all the other boy groups that popped up in 2012 added to the redundancy.
Add in After School's inability to sustain a successful run in Japan, and money problems compounded themselves for Pledis. The only real money Pledis had coming in was from Fantagio to manage HelloVenus.
After HelloVenus was sabotaged canceled (and replaced by AOA as the trend 2012 girl group), things started to look up for Pledis as they began receiving a lot of support from CJE&M -- something that wasn't always the case in the past. Not only was their at the time web-only Seventeen project boosted by actual TV shows, Pledis also received production support from CJE&M favored companies like YMC and Brand New Music.
Will be interesting to see how the Pledis Girls turn out if Pledis are all out of favors.
the amount of stuff i learned from this post alone

HOLD MY HAND is perfection tbh.
!! that's the song that got me into her tbh.
she's so good, i need another album asap so i can properly stan because 'My Star' is still too good
Tbh 90% of the music from the 2nd gen sounds dated as hell to me
!!! in a 5+ yrs, next gen kpop fans will def be looking at some of the music we listen to now like "wtf is this? " and thus is the everlasting cycle lol

well, I wouldn't say complete carbon copies but there are def elements that you'd have to be blind to not see. An evolution, like Halien said.
how is stanning for TWICE/IOI/GFRIEND etc any different than stanning for T-ARA/SNSD back then? That's not shade but all of these groups in their beginning stages made cheesy music that only Koreans/deep-rooted kpop fans could genuinely enjoy
I wouldn't equate Like Ooh Ahh, Cheer Up, Glass Bead, and Me Gustas Tu to those tragic messes SNSD and Tara released early on
Lionheart is such a perfect pop album, the first time i heard it & the amount of life i got from it
speaking of that era, i remember seeing this thread popping on the little update bar alll the time during around the SNSD comeback last year and i wondered in hear & saw the 'Lionheart' teaser pics and i was like 'who the hell are these pretty girls'
im imaging a stan war between 2NE1 fans & SNSD fans and honestly... it seems kinda epic
the way both groups' receipts are so strong & there's so much to come to each other for, a true definition of a 'war' tbh

Omg When did you start stanning? I remember you had all these Ariana/Western artist avis and one day out of nowhere you had one of DEAN or someone

I agree save for GFRIEND/Into The New World (I promise this is not shade but these are the closest in sound). What I'm saying tho is that if you were to a show a non-fan or a new fan any of these GGs' debut songs, chances of them hating them are completely high. They're the same thing... just in a new decade.

Essays, overuse of the same drag-worthy pictures of SNSD's plentiful nosejobs and Bom's 15 different faces, pages and pages of chaos until a mod would come in and do a sweep.

I definitely hear the similarities with glass bead and itnw, I get your points
