What is the deciding factor on the popularity of song, just because you saw someone singing along with it at Barnes & Noble

I feel the chart should be a good indication on how big a song is and it should top there. Also, it's pretty weird on how people say CSTF is forgotten when I hear that song all the time, TV and radio.
