yet Like Ooh AHH is about to hit 100 milli in exactly a year
idg how some still think KPop popularity peaked in 2011....
it's been growing ever since
those people are so hung up with the Japanese sales
It's definitely gotten bigger, the fact that BTS is gonna hit Top 15 in BB200, EXO sold 1 million in a year, TWICE having 2 videos with 100 million views, etc
I don't know what sound to expect from the TWICE comeback based on the pics. From Cheer Up's, you knew it was going to be uptempo and fun. No doubt that this song will be too bc that's their brand and it's best to keep that momentum going until they're big and established enough to switch it up but... it's just that from these pics, you can't tell.

they probably mean in quality and popularity wise in korea...
Even if u want to deny the quality for the sake of an argument u cant deny that kpop used to be way more diverse back then.. These days u cant tell kpop groups apart especially girl ones.... they dont take risks, they dont come up with interesting and unique concepts nothing...
Although i am not korean i get the impression that kpop used to be way more popular with the korean public bak in the days.. but thats just me as an outsider by reading kpop related stuff... a korean member can enlighten us on this...
Kpop is more global now thats true... i mean look at youtube views even flops can get million views these days... too bad for them western fans dont buy albums so they cant sustain their career (watch 4minutes)

Did you just slept through when TWICE, Gfriend, Mamamoo, RV, EXO, BTS, etc murdered the charts?
I do think 2012/post Gangnam Style boom was better for everyone, there were a bunch of random groups hitting great, unprecedented view counts for k-artists, like Nuest, BTOB, etc. Though artists are scoring 2x amount they were today, it's still only the very most popular groups getting there, while the groups who did see an uptick in popularity can't get anywhere near the totals they got in 2012 today.
EDIT: Obviously this is from a "how does the world consume kpop" perspective. More people are consuming kpop than before, but it's more like "Twice and BTS have many views", than "Kpop is more prolific"
It was a live performance... It looks really bad in motion.
Just watched their latest performance. I see what you mean. The styling is bad and helmet-like and from the back, it looks like a wig that's slightly lifting off
and then like Kosmo said, the blue contacts add to it (ugh I hate this combination from idols). Hopefully they fix that soon.
I don't know. I think it goes beyond major groups like BTS, EXO, TWICE etc... like someone said, even small groups/KHH are getting decent views and following. I kid you not, I signed on to tumblr months after not using it and almost everyone I followed had some idol as their icon and was reblogging k-pop stuff. More and more people on my twitter are starting to talk about it and now w/ acts like Tinashe, will.i.am etc collaborating, that's another bridge being built. It is starting to really boom right now and it's only the beginning.

thats so true!
Back then we had SNSD, WG, 2NE1, MISS A, F(X), T-ARA, SISTAR, 4 MINUTES, SECRET ETC
all of them were succesfull hitting hits after hits..
while they were still groups like after school doing average good
nowdays the market doesnt allow so many players
just count the number of kpop related shows in korean tv back then and now... its obvious that there are less jobs now that are being taken mostly by the bigger players ...

As i said before no one denies that kpop is getting more global... but western attention isnt that important for smaller groups because it doesnt return much revenue...
On teh otehr hand back then kpop might not be so global but it was huge in korea and other Asian countries thats why groups liek rainbow, nine muses, dal shabet, crayon pop are still alive.....
i mean look at how many groups got disbanded recently despite getting bigger in west! i mean if west cant save 4 minutes it wont help way smaller groups...
