#5 - I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
Average: 9.10417
Highest score: 11 (Theus); 10 (Ace Reject, alkralkra, Buyonce1814, conatus, Kang., KingKunta, minho, PrinceMichaelFan, Reverie, Skywalker, Subomie, TheWayWeWere, Wicked)
Lowest score: 1 (Paul McCartney)
I asked if she wanted to dance,
And she said all she wanted was a good man,
And wanted to know if I thought I was qualified... | The fourth and final single from the album, "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" is one of Sign's poppiest and most upbeat songs. Originally recorded in 1982, the song was updated for the unreleased Dream Factory album before making it onto the Sign tracklist.
Buyonce1814 says, "I feel like Cher should have a cover of this somewhere. Low-key reminds me of "Walking In Memphis" and I don't even know why. Catchy as ****. It's a bit long though." "Not bad, in fact it is great when compared to many of the songs released in 1988, but he should've released other songs from the album as singles instead of this middle of the road track," complains Latinazza. PrinceMichaelFan simply calls it "one of the coolest pop rock songs of all time".

I'm okay with this. Hoping Paul gave my song the 7 at this point.

This is great but the live version at the SOTT Tour is on another level.

And I said, baby don't waste your time
I know what's on your mind
I may be qualified for a one night stand
But I could never take the place of your man

hihi...
I'm surprised it got this much love
Connor, I thought you said you'd accept no trolling ballots. Paula's disgraceful one indicates the opposite.

Her higher Prince scores were the lower-placing songs.
Anyway, #4... Get your pitchforks ready. That's all I shall say.

#4 - The Cross
Average: 9.29167
Highest score: 11 (conatus, Kang., StonedSoulPicnic, Vilppu); 10 (Ace Reject, alkralkra, Buyonce1814, Latinazza, madonnas, minho, Pink Matter, Reverie, Skywalker, Subomie, TheWayWeWere, Tom Vercetti, Wicked)
Lowest score: 0 (Paul McCartney)
We all have our problems,
Some big, some are small,
Soon all of our problems will be taken by the cross... |
George Harrison was always my favourite Beatle anyway. Oh, by the way, if it weren't for that 0, "The Cross" would be #1.
Kang. says, explaining his 11, "I've pretty much arrived at the point where I think this is the best Prince song. Competition from the track before it on the album though." madonas says, "Prince invented Grunge, the Pixies who?" Buyonce1814 says, "This is a ballad, Mr. Nelson. Poor "Dorothy Parker". [You're wrong!] Woo when the guitar comes in. Snatch me, purple king! This song is like a blowjob. You start off enjoying it nice and slow and then he goes faster and rougher until finally you explode." I... OK. Latinazza praises the climax too, saying: "This was another contender for my 11. A song that is beautiful beyond belief. The way that it gradually just builds and builds. "
