The girls used to try this before album equivalents became a thing. And the reason this doesn't work is because Toxic would become a 42M selling single. ...Baby One More Time would be over 20M. If we pulled this adjustment method, Britney would've outsold Taylor's singles with 5/6 releases.
The only chart in the world that uses that multiplier method is the Taiwan Combo Chart. Meanwhile album equivalents are used by IFPI, Billboard, the Official Charts Company, SNEP, RIAA, etc.
And according to album equivalents, Taylor is below Britney and has not outdone her peers the way Britney has. Even Rihanna has moved more album equivalents than Taylor and Taylor has had her entire career outsold by an album twice (TF+M and 21).
