It uses prostitution as a metaphor for loosing hope in men in general and only wanting "John Wayne's" / bad boys for the thrill..not the love. She has become so numb and does not expect love from a man after going through so many relationships (like a prostitute goes through so many clients to the point that every "john becomes the same").
the song itself is sort of experimental rock-ish with post modern alternative sounds i believe? not too sure how to describe it sonicly. it's a great song!
