Oh, I get it now lol. I always make an effort to pronounce/learn names correctly and basic culture things, but I'm not gonna pick up a grammar book or anything

It's so weird being in awe of someone speaking a language you're trying to learn. I haven't had that ever but watching idols speak Korean easily instantly makes me jealous and makes me feel like it's some kind of supernatural talent rather than something they just grew up learning.

Learning a new language is certainly humbling though. It makes me feel a unique brand of dumb.

if they talk really fast then I hear basically nothing lol but yeah, usually I can. not always whole sentences tho. I go off of certain words I recognize that I can use as context clues to what they're saying. I still forget words too sometimes and a lot of words sound alike or there are multiple ways of saying one word depending on who you're speaking to so that's another problem.

Yeah, learning to speak fluent Korean is not easy. For me, after like 7 years into K-pop, I can read Korean and know basic vocabulary, but stringing sentences together is still a challenge.

I think the fun part is learning how to read though, that's SUPER easy and structured. And when you expand your vocabulary, you can read everything on Korean sites and figure out stuff on your own.
