UK is a very unique music market, it's almost entirely promo driven. Pretty much only 2 radio stations matter, one is ageist and only plays indie music or pop songs they think the teens will think are cool (Radio 1), and the other will only play (a limited list) of instant hits that are generic (Capital). And radio doesn't have a direct impact on the charts, it can only influence people to buy songs.
So the power is entirely in the consumers hands, although they can be manipulated by radio playlisting certain songs.
Unless the song you release is an instant smash or you're a huge name (One Dance, recent example), then you have to perform somewhere. And performances have a lot more impact here than they do elsewhere, since our charts are mainly sales based (or were until recently). So if you performed somewhere, and you snatch the sales, your song is instantly gonna chart high, even if no radio stations are playing it.

didn't artists in the UK have that promo trick of releasing a song onto radio and then waiting for two to five months to actually release it in stores?? something like that?
I wanted to try it but it's so damn expensive. It hurts my wallet.
I've done the dentist treatment and box treatment and honestly the dentist treatment hurts less imo. Initially, the strips used to sting and make my teeth temporarily sensitive. I remember the first and second treatment were unbearably painful.
