like I honestly find it to be unrealistic, their last two singles flopped and they released DYRWTHM as a "hope this doesn't flop or else we're DONE" single it's almost too convenient how it managed to hit top 15 in such a short time, right after them coming off of bad press and two flop singles

bad press and controversy can actually make a song go up the charts. any exposure, bad or good, will increase the amount of people buying a song

Their first single went to #114, their next single #100. The first few weeks it was released it wasn't really noticed, and then a musical guest pulled out of Top Of The Pops (biggest UK music show), so they were called in last minute to replace them. After their performance the song smashed.
