13 weeks #1 on airplay, 11 weeks #1 on sales while her album was selling hugely and actually broke the highest sales in a week for a female at the time (compared to Uptown Funk, Closer, Happy, and Blurred Lines selling so well partly because nobody is/was buying the respective album).

I feel it was because it was huge on both pop and urban/R&B radio -- most of its competition at the time (Name, Missing, One of Us) didn't have that strength in the latter format. Also, it was really huge on Hot AC, which put Nobody Knows, probably it's only competition from an R&B song, at a disadvantage, as that didn't do too well and peaked there long after OSD's run ended, around April/May. (Also, One of Us was not a big hit at Hot AC for some bizarre reason). Not sure how much sales of singles mattered at the time, but 11 weeks may have helped a lot too.
Also about "nobody buying the albums" of the other songs you listed: All of the songs you listed came from albums released after the song hit the top of the charts. While there's no denying Uptown Special and GIRL bombed, the Blurred Lines album was a big success, and the Chainsmokers' isn't even out yet. And I'm certain there was some interest in the respective artists as a whole (except for Mark Ronson), even if their albums weren't huge and their follow-up singles didn't do too well.

IKR? I don't get how Hot AC kind of snubbed "One of Us", that song fitted well with all the Alanis, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, etc they played on Hot AC in the mid and late 90s. It did way better on mainstream top 40 radio tho.

It includes CMA sales though. Besides that it's very accurate.
