That doesn't really guarantee anything, but of course it's good to secure market share at this point. We'll see if Spotify successfully makes the step to profitability soon.
Get rid of freemium and shake up everything please
The good news for Spotify financially is that the percentage of users that are Premium is increasing.
I think that Spotify is still planning to keep their free tier indefinitely (a good move, imo). There are enough benefits to upgrading to premium that they'll be able to keep growing their Premium base, and by offering a free tier they differentiate themselves from every other ODS service on the market and maintain their commanding market share while reducing pirating.
If they totally eliminate their free tier, YouTube numbers could go up a lot. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

It's been reported that they're going to limit the free tier and introduce a premium-only option for albums. Hopefully it's enough of an incentive to upgrade to premium and increase the abysmal conversion rates.

It's still quite stupid how spotify still does free streaming for its listeners.
It's so cheap there is no excuse for like 98% of people to not wanna pay for it.
The artist and label still gets paid regardless so it's also not technically free streams!

This is exactly what I'm saying. I don't understand why there are so many people against freemium here.
If they do eliminate freemium, they'll loose a huge amount of users and some may make the change to premium, but others will migrate to YouTube or start downloading albums or songs illegally.
There was an article posted here sometime this year or last year about an indie artist stating that he didn't agree with Taylor when he removed his music from Spotify. He said that Spotify offered them a way to get their music to be known by the world and what Swift did was greedy. I'll try to get the article.
