Applause might've lost the battle against Roar success-wise but it def won quality-wise.

Even if it would have STILL peaked at #4, stayed top 10 for 14 weeks, and sold 2.6m in the U.S, it would have been a "slay" on ATRL if only Roar didn't come around the same time.
Honestly I root for my Gaga and want her to succeed (she loves my baby Rihanna, Rihanna loves her back) but she's just not as cold blooded to have longevity like Madonna, Beyoncé, TSwift etc...reminds me of my other baby Britney in this regard. Anyway hope she puts out some good ass music and can find happiness even if commercial success isn't on the horizon.
