He's part of Odd Future who have tons of homophobic lyrics.
Glad LGBT medias ain't using him and he shouldn't even be considered a part of the LGBT community in the first place, since he doesn't "label" himself so his breeders stans still buy his ****, shame on him.
Mess why do you just need gay publications? he's been talked about everywhere in the media so why is this important the good sis has all the big publications praising ha.
Frank Ocean, who yet to actually come out as anything, didn't get the sort of wall-to-wall coverage in gay media that he did everywhere else?! Why, I'm shocked and appalled.
But also i would like Frank to speak more about LGBT issues. LGBT+ POC needs representation and judging by his popularity rn, having him to speak more would be amazing for the cause.
I know that probably he hates exposure and maybe people would say that he's just doing it to sell records, but it's kinda necessary. A lot of people don't even know that he's a part of the community (Hell, i only found out about it the other day and i'm a part of the LGBT+ poc community). Some of you will say "Well, he's an artist, he don't have to talk about his sexuality if he doesn't want to!", yeah, right. But as a public person he should use his voice to bring attention to this too. Not a obligation but would be nice.
About the publications, totally agree. They need to pay more attention to him. But i guess they are busy with gay-pandering, shirtless, basic white straight guys covering their magazines
Btw, i'm not dragging anyone, just saying in b4 someone attack me or whatever.
Stop writing essays to these girls, they rather support someone like Nick Jonas, who panders to the highest of the heavens than support a man who is one of their own. No, Frank doesn't discuss his sexuality at the drop of the dime (why should he have to?), Frank is about his music and he speaks about his personal life in his music, he doesn't need to show and prove how gay/bi/queer he is. Now, let me get back to my favorite's #1 critically acclaimed album on iTunes...
So Frank doesn't have to discuss his sexuality but the magazines who focus on queer sexuality have to talk about him?
Jeezus, why are people always finding something to bitch about!? I'm sorry, but Frank Ocean is overrated af. His last album was forgettable and only remembered because he used his sexuality as a publicity stunt.
How can someone not acknowledge the LGBT community then expect to get a pass from the LGBT community?
& Frank did NOT come out the closet. He said his first relationship was with a man and didn't choose to expand and wanted it [the letter] to solely be viewed as that.
If he came out blatantly as gay or bisexual and the LGBT magazines and publications were paying him dust then it'd be an arguable issue. However we don't even know his sexuality... He could literally say he is straight.
Nobody is expecting him to "wear speedos with drag queens", but if you're going to be an LGBT icon people expect some sort of form of being publically open about your sexuality
yeah because straight men have relationships with men log off sis
Why is it so important to be recognized by gay publications?
Especially when he got widespread acclaim by the mainstream media. I understand that there's this need for validation for the black LGBT+ community but relying solely on gay media is about as regressive as you can get. And I don't see the need for it when he doesn't even apply a label for himself other than the convenience when it suits him.
Plus with gay publications like OUT Magazine, it's not really the best spotlight since a lot of those publications are almost superficial in nature anyway. And their editorials sort of read like an upscaled Tumblr post.
Some of the points in the points in this article are admittedly a reach, but gay culture is definitely white dominated and we shouldn't just look over this and write it off as too "tumblr". Frank is a prominent LBGT artist so the fact he was overlooked is weird.
