Why isn't this user banned? If this were attacking other minorities he'd be out of here in a second. And no, adding "white" as a prefix doesn't excuse blatant homophobia.

Start your own outlets if you're sick of the same old same old. I'm sure you can find an audience nowadays.

1) it's R&B music....which many gay POC grew up and continue to listen to.
2) Thanks for showing ignorance from white gays when it comes to R&B music.
3) His latest album is considered as pop music. https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blonde/id1146195596

I see so many posts arguing he "hasn't done anything for the LGBT community". This man came out of the closet at the start of his career. He's the first black music star to ever come out of the closet. Do you realize how huge that is? How risky it was? His core fanbase is not upper middle class white gays and girls from San Francisco, he has a huge urban base that no one could have predicted how they'd react to his coming out. He comes from the urban world, Odd Future isn't exactly LA Pride. Just coming out he has provided a role model and visibility to black gay men in the media and the entertainment world. He also posted a letter about Orlando and has not shied away from referencing men openly in his lyrics, something which other singers (cough Sam Smith cough) have yet to do.
Why isn't this "enough"? Or was he supposed to parade down the street in a speedo with two drag queens on each arm? Was he supposed to do a half naked shoot for Out Magazine? Was he supposed to write a corny song about how he loves his gay fans?

So Pandering to gays is acceptable.Wow. I'm shocked that you aren't surprised about what you said.

Vin beloved, I know you wanna rill things up which has become quite a rarity on this site these days.
However, it doesn't matter if he wants to label himself or not. He doesn't have to parade around about gay rights.
He just simply falls in love with men from time to time and like previously posted, it is also in his music.
They don't even have to ask him about his sexuality. If their journalism goes beyond interviewing Nick Jonas, they could figure that out.
But it is also obvious that he also doesn't count on them and he knows why.
We all know that, we have all figured it out and we know that it is not just about Frank Ocean and that it always has been the same. Unfortunately gay publications are not giving us anything remotly interesting and they show very little interest in representing the entire community and they really have no approach how to change things.
Frank Ocean is just an example.

It's not worse than using sexuality as a gimmick to sell albums and then never mentioning it ever again.

So you're telling me a straight white guy who uses his body to tease, and pull in a gay audience is more acceptable than a black LGBT artist who doesn't wanted to be labeled?

Stop writing essays to these girls, they rather support someone like Nick Jonas, who panders to the highest of the heavens than support a man who is one of their own. No, Frank doesn't discuss his sexuality at the drop of the dime (why should he have to?), Frank is about his music and he speaks about his personal life in his music, he doesn't need to show and prove how gay/bi/queer he is. Now, let me get back to my favorite's #1 critically acclaimed album on iTunes...

Again, he's letting the music do it for him. How is that an issue? And how is teasing an audience that you're not apart of not?

How can someone not acknowledge the LGBT community then expect to get a pass from the LGBT community?
& Frank did NOT come out the closet. He said his first relationship was with a man and didn't choose to expand and wanted it [the letter] to solely be viewed as that.
If he came out blatantly as gay or bisexual and the LGBT magazines and publications were paying him dust then it'd be an arguable issue. However we don't even know his sexuality... He could literally say he is straight.
Nobody is expecting him to "wear speedos with drag queens", but if you're going to be an LGBT icon people expect some sort of form of being publically open about your sexuality

I don't know why yall keep talking about album reviews and "praising his album just because he's lgbt" when literally nobody said such a thing. What does an album review have to do with the thread, when we're talking about covering the release?

I can bet that if frank had him making out with a guy in a music video he would be in every gay magazine, but we all know he wouldn't do that, wouldn't want people to think he is a homo

@iHype, saying your first relationship was with a man IS coming out of the closet and being public about your sexuality. Not everyone wants to label themselves. That's completely fine and up to them. But don't act as if a man previously assumed to be straight saying "my first love was a man" does not equal recasting his sexuality as not straight.

Frank Ocean doesn't have to do anything for the LGBT, and that's fine. And he doesn't have to identify as anything, either, and that's fine, too. But you can't objectively expect the LGBT to highlight his career, either. In any case, I wish there was a poll to this thread.
...Vin
