The "they don't look like Pokemon" excuse is a bad one, since that exists in every generation. Gen 5 was the worst for me too (Gen 4 is only saved by some cross-gen evos that slay like Mismagius and Roserade). But that's because they're uglee. Pure and simple.

And the genies aren't really that bad when you compare them to what the other Pokemon in Gen 5 - and a lot of Gen 4 were. People just hate them coz they mad Lando is everywhere.

Truly though gen 5 had the worst designs and i lost all my interest in pokemon. While gen 4 was my first game i bought ever. (Ofcourse i played all the other games before) i lost all my hype for pokemon when i saw all those leaked pokemons. That sperm was the first leaked pokemon i saw and i didn't want to further. When i went further, i saw only worse and worse pokemons. But gen 5 gave us a FEW good ones too.
Serperior, Scolipede, Virizion, Cobalion, Meloetta, Stoutland and Lilligant
Volcarona and Jellicent were also okay. but the rest were really messy

gen 5 is honestly terrible gen 4 is only slightly better because it gave a couple of nice cross gen evolutions, but i honestly hate what they did to magenton and a couple of others, they just made them obese versions

I do think I've grown more towards Gen 5's mons in the last year or two though; seeing them around more often. I still don't love any of them enough to put them in my top tier faves. Virizion, Serperior etc are slays tho. I'd say I like a good clean 75%+ of the Gen 5 mons now. The worst ones for me are probably the tepig line, Samurott (although Dewott is great), the two trade bug-type evolution lines, Cofagrigus, Golett/urk, Stunfisk and Heatmor.

I've come round to Ferrothorn and some other pure uglees quite a lot recently tbh. I don't even mind Garbodor now I guess. I'd say it's still my least fave gen overall but I don't hate the majority of the mons like I did before.

True, I misspoke but well, you got my point !

I'm gonna stop on Gen5 now but it'll always be my least favourite gen.
I usually always fall madly in love with at least one pokémon from each generation, but it didn't happen with Gen5. I hated most of the dex back then and I still do now, almost 6 years later. The only two pokémons I kinda like are Chandelure and Haxorus (but that's thanks to their shinies).

Gen 5 has some of the best designs in the series, and some of the worst. I rank it average, but better than gen 6. And I really liked the games themselves, the feel of Unova was one of the best regions in all the games imo, alongside Johto. Lowkey wish I didn't sell my copy of w2.
