It's not just the "illegals give us a bad name" it's deeper. Many latinos even look down on anyone who's not US-born.
In the Hispanic community there's a big us vs them mentality and it seems to grow over time. When I was a kid you should've heard the way some latinos talked about the kids that came over from the nearest border town (Mexican side).
In the future, I predict that as the latino population grows, it'll lose sight of its roots and along with their Spanish getting worse

a large part will prefer to be a part of the caucasian groups and if the GOP softens its tone on certain things (social issues), I could see many of them becoming the bedrock of the GOP (Susana Martinez, Brian Sandoval, Marco Rubio types) like the black community became the difference in the Democratic party.
