I remember seeing a few items on the news about the crisis in Venezuela; that must be about 3-4 months ago now. I'm really sorry things haven't gotten better - and I hope the protest is successful and brings some kind of change.

I'm sad for Venezuela and the way some of the people embraced Chavizmo. Brazil's leaders are indifferent to the Venezuela crisis, now even more with the Mercosul leadership mess, so I'm really terrified to what will happen to them.

Thank you for your wishes everybody!
We do have money, but to buy food at an affordable price we have to make long lines for 8 hours (starting the night before) and pray that the market where we lined for hours sells flour, rice or anything that give us that "full stomach" feeling. We can only buy food once a week and only the day we have to (it depends on the last digit of our ID)
If we don't make the ****ing long lines we buy food at like "black markets", but SUPER expensive

To give you a better idea:
Our monthly income is around 15.000Bs, a bag of rice at a super market costs around 800bs, and at the "black market" 2.500bs or 3.000bs. 2 pounds of meat are 4.000bs. A ticket to the movies 1.000bs. A pack of cigarrettes 1.400bs. A soda 900bs. Eat at a McDonalds 5000bs.
And remember, we only get 15.000bs monthly

No. Our president is not allowing any humanitarian help.

The only food or basic products allowed are from people coming from abroad to our country.

Yes and no. When Chávez died, Maduro "won" by a small margin against the opposition, and since they controll the elections he probably didn't win and they had to make it up, but whatever.

Both, to be honest. 15.000 Bs. monthly is nothing. The basic food basket costs around 300.000 Bs. (but you don't even find the food).

So i looked into it. At first, when I did the google conversion, it didn't look so bad. 15.000 Bs converted into $1500 USD.

I did a little more digging and it looks like the true rate is something like 15.000 Bs = $36 USD

and this is for one month

in purchasing power. That's just freaking inSANE.

I really feel bad for Venezuela =/ part of it has been due to the drop in oil prices, but I guess the other part has been bad national policy where the govt didn't stash away many USDs, which has had some sort of impact on export capability and selling globally all around.

Overall, it looks like a shitfest, and I have no clue when this might end.

I still wish there was a way we could help somehow.
