People hear "crossover" and think of Super Bass. ANTi is crossover, and is still essentially urban.
Also a hip-hop producer saying "crossover" just probably equates anything with singing. PYIAR and Mona Lisa would fit under this category which I think is the direction she's going.

I'm like the biggest 'rap' fan of Nicki and even I wasn't shocked about the London On Da Track interview. Every rapper on that level has more crossover type of songs. At this point I don't even mind as long as:
- It's not produced by Dr. Luke. I was actually happy to read the whole Kesha controversy because I knew it would make Nicki probably not wanting to work with him anymore (don't drag me for this)
- It's cohesive. Her last two albums weren't.
- There are at least 5-6 gritty, hardcore rap songs that'll make her qualities as a rapper undeniable.
- Some more political depth to her songs. She speaks out so much about it in real life but never really on her songs. Critics love those type of songs and I want her to have a critical acclaimed album like TPAB or Lemonade.
Also, there is literally no hip-hop fan complaining when there is 'singing' on the album. There's a big difference between singing on a Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West or Drake album and singing on a song like Starships or TNISY. If she sings like she sings on that last track with Khaled (or Mustard) I totally dig that. Just no more dance-pop type of songs.
Don't forget though, I've been saying this for a long time, the singles on The Pinkprint that did the best were urban/hip-hop records (Anaconda was only pop(-ular) because of the video, the song itself isn't).

She's at a level where she doesn't need those generic pop songs anymore to be successful. Genre doesn't even matter anymore, people will buy her music just because it's her song. If Taylor Swift would release a country song as her new single it would still sell huge, just because it's her song.

No I ment that it was only affiliated with pop music because the video was so popular. I agree the song was big on itself, there was already hype before the video.
