Besides "Black" and "White" what exactly are the human races? I was filling out a voter registration and under race/ethnicity they had

Black(Non Hispanic)
Native American/Alakian Native
Latino
Arab/Middle Eastern
Asian
White(Non Hispanic)

I thought Latino isn't a race? So why is there a non Hispanic

Are those human races?

race is really an ambiguous term

traditionally there are 4 major groups, caucasoid (white), negroid (black), mongoloid (asian) & australoid (aboriginal); these can be infinitely sub-divided really - but these terms were invented by white scientists to create a scientific basis for racism, declassifying other groups as subhuman/different to us

within anthropology the term race isn't so widely used, ethnicities is more commonly used which denotes not just skin colour and heritage but also culture. However ethnicities are often referred to as races, like how you can be racist against Muslims because they are an ethnicity.

race in its modern form is a social construct - but that doesn't mean it isn't important, just like gender

Not to display my ignorance but I never heard of those terms..and what about Arab and middle eastern people? I'm confuse are they consider Caucasian?

hispanic/latino is an ethnicity. you can be any race and still be hispanic, the majority of hispanics/latinos are mestizo (white/aboriginal) if that's what you were wondering

well those terms 'caucasoid' et al are outdated and considered inappropriate, I was just trying to give some historical context to race... white is the majority that fall within 'caucasoid' but others are also included such as arab and north african people I believe

the specifics of who falls into where within those terms is irrelevant as those terms are no longer used

as I said - the modern way the term race is used is more accurately fits the definition of 'ethnicity' - thats why there some confusion over what a race is and what racism is.. to some people

Latinos typically fall under either White, Black or Native, even though I know 3 Asian Latinos.

Negroid - your genes originate from the African gene pool

Caucasian - your genes originate from the "fertile crescent" middle east gene pool

Mongoloid - genes originate from the far east gene pool of present day asia

From these three gene pools people mixed and today spread all throughout world making racial classification nearly obsolete

Sis, we've gone over this. You are mestizo. A mixture of European and Native races. Your sisters who look like Beyonce or Ciara or whatever are also mestizo. Your race isn't dependent on your skin color, it's dependent on your GENES.

It does matter, and whether people like to admit it or not they do certain actions against a others because of their race. This can be unintentional sometimes.

We should value humans for our differences. Our skin colors make us different and we should celebrate that.
