It's basically what they needed on the album to balance the poppier and the urban stuff. As J-Esper stated many times, the GP knows 2 tracks giving the impression 7/27 is a urban-leaning record when in fact it's more of a pop effort (and this might be one of the reasons it "underperformed" in terms of sales). "Voicemail" would have easily fit in and it's a bridge between their old and their new sound. I wouldn't rule out the chance of it doing good on charts, it's a nice throwback.
Adding up to that, there's actually no track on the album left that fits in the sound smashing right now except maybe "I Lied". The duo "Scared Of Happy" / "Squeeze" should have been released this Summer if anything, with the former having more chances than the latter in the fall. The latter could have been a huge European smash, but would have flopped terribly in the US.
So yeah, I would defo love "Voicemail" to be a single. What would your choice be, Shelven?
