Most of those songs went number one before streaming was incorporated.

Which means they had it even easier to go #1 without a video.
A song can have great digital sales + great airplay without a music video.
Meanwhile, it's very rare a song has great streaming, let alone goes #1 on Streaming with no music video, and now Streaming is the biggest part of Hot 100.

what was the hot 100 formula in 2012???? I remember boyfriend getting 500k sales and loads of youtube streams but it still didnt hit #1.
was streaming not incorporated then or was it just 50% sales and airplay?

Sales & Radio then, then they newly introduced counting On-Demand Audio Streams which kept it from hitting #1.

"Boyfriend" opens atop the Digital Songs chart with 521,000 first-week downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since SoundScan began tracking digital sales (which first contributed to the Hot 100 the week of Feb. 12, 2005), only Flo Rida's "Right Round" has debuted on Digital Songs with a higher total (636,000, the week of Feb. 28, 2009).
"Boyfriend" likewise logs an impressive first week of airplay, debuting at No. 24 on the Radio Songs chart with 40 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. Among newly-released songs by male soloists in the chart's 21-year history, only two have arrived with greater audience totals: Eminem's "Just Lose It" (52 million, Oct, 9, 2004) and Michael Jackson's "Black or White" (41 million, Nov. 23, 1991).
Despite the massive first-week numbers for "Boyfriend," fun.'s "We Are Young" leads the Hot 100 for a fifth week. The song slips 1-2 on Digital Songs with 363,000 downloads sold (down 6%). On Radio Songs, "Young" pushes 4-2 with 104 million audience impressions (up 19%), enough to give the song top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100 for a fifth consecutive week.
A notable factor in the chart battle between "Boyfriend" and "Young" is the latter song's upper hand in streaming. "Young" remains atop the On-Demand Songs chart with 1.18 million on-demand streams (flat from last week) in the chart's tracking week, according to BDS.
"Boyfriend," however, logs almost no streaming points among its Hot 100 points total due to its lack of availability on most streaming services during the tracking week, which ended Sunday. Also granting an edge to "Young," albeit slight, was the song's availability at all digital retailers, while "Boyfriend" was released as an iTunes-exclusive track.

Lets look back at the predictions for this week
Name | Correctness | Correct songs (top 20) | Total number of positions off | NoMythologies | 84.5% | 13 | 10 | Dekkan | 82% | 12 | 12 | simmnfierzig | 79.5% | 11 | 14 | FCKNAmbrosia | 77% | 10 | 16 | Artpop | 76.5% | 10 | 17 |
And since I forget it last week, that too
Name | Correctness | Correct songs (top 20) | Total number of positions off | NoMythologies | 83.5% | 13 | 12 | Artpop | 82% | 12 | 12 | simmnfierzig | 81.5% | 12 | 13 | J Rick | 68% | 6 | 22 |
Correctness is based on a little formula I invented. It's 100% - incorrect songs * 1.5% - number positions off * 0.5%. The numbers are totally random, but make sense to me.
No Mythologies slaying 2 more weeks
And thanks everyone for the predictions

So basically it's next 2 weeks or never for TIWYCF (if it gets discounted) to go #1 because "Cold Water" will get it afterwards?
