Idk why we're pretending Carly wasn't already beloved by critics before Devonte Hynes stamped her with his indie cred or whatever it is you guys are arguing here. Kiss obviously wasn't as critically hailed as Emotion was, but it did attract a sizable contingent of music critics championing its quality (despite zero collaborations with buzz-blog-approved producers). It fared better on P&J than any other pop album released that year, beating out the likes of Born to Die, Unapologetic, Unorthodox Jukebox, and Warrior.
She didn't really gain any beloved critics off of that album, it mainly stems from the ...BOMT-esque novelty hit of her ubiquitous #1 single. I have a friend who loves that album though and forced me to listen to it one day, it's fine.
They cover all of her collaborations, performances, promo, etc. She's not a fave in the critical sense but she plays a role in the epiphany of Carly the Cool Girl.
Sia-penned, co-written with Sia, etc all used in this narrative
Er. Sia's songs are generally panned and, despite being insanely prolific, somehow only two of the albums she's ever written or co-written a single song for have ever found their way to year-end list anywhere (Beyoncé being the other).

How quickly they forgot that Call Me Maybe was one of the most acclaimed songs of its year
True. Why else would Madonna, Beyoncé and Shakira all be among the very few "main pop girls" to not have a single album scored below green well, Madge has American Life, but that was more due to extreme backlash more than anything, due to the AL video which came out before the album

And yet Kiss fared better on P&J than Gotye's album, fun.'s album, Pharrell's GIRL, Title, any Sia album, etc etc., all of which housed similarly ubiquitous novelty hits.

No, AL was just a horrid album. It actually got a higher score than it deserved.
