I don't know if this will affect her in the long run, but Taylor's image relies on her being the friendly, relatable, nice, girl-next-door who couldn't harm anyone.

She needed to create a narrative in time for the Grammys wherein she was yet again some sort of victim because no one cares about Taylor Swift unless she's downtrodden, and winning AOTY (which she paid for) without some undercurrent of pitiability would have ruined that.

She probably just didn't know she was being recorded. Who knows what else she's done behind closed doors (aside from buying those Grammys, of course).
