Tsunami in Talcahuano, Chile and other Towns after 8.8 Earthquake
A 2.4 meter (7.7ft) Tsunami has crashed into the town of Talcahuano, Chile as well as other towns such as Coquimbo, Antofagasta and Caldera near the epicenter of a massive 8.8 earthquake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said in an advisory: “Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated.”
The tsunami “may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts.”
A tsunami watch was in place across the Pacific, as far away as Australia one third of the planet away.
Chile’s president, in a televised address to her Nation, declared a “state of catastrophe” following massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake.
The massive earthquake, about the 8th most powerful in recorded history, was felt as far away as Argentina and caused severe damage to roads, bridges, homes, businesses and other structures across Chile. The earthquake death toll is expected to be very high at was at 47 as of writing.
