One Dance is simply not as big as Uptown Funk, which is the biggest hit in a long time.
Anyway the video is coming, and the song is serving longevity on its own. You never know..

At least it'll go top 3
I think it'll reach #2 because timberlake's song will start to fall.
|
Rihanna won't...she'll perform Sledgehammer or some other ANTI non-single.
Yeah #2 seems about right unless a new track bumps TIWYCF down...why can't One Dance just die already!

I'm not discrediting OD. That's just you taking offense and crying every time someone mentions Drake's streaming.
When comparing One Dance to Uptown Funk, it doesn't seem as big considering Uptown Funk was a MONSTER on ALL attributes, and One Dance is a monster on only one front - streaming, and merely successful on other fronts. One Dance IS a multi-week #1 because of streaming. Take away that, and you don't have a hit as big. Take away UF's streaming (or any one attribute for that matter), and you still have a massive hit.

In case you all forgot, mid year top sellers compared to previous years.
2012: | 2014: | 2016: | 5,501,000 (Somebody That I Used to Know) | 5,633,000 (Happy) | 1,947,000 (My House) | 5,087,000 (We Are Young) | 4,004,000 (Dark Horse) | 1,831,000 (7 Years) | 4,064,000 (Call Me Maybe) | 3,854,000 (All of Me) | 1,653,000 (Love Yourself) | 3,324,000 (Stronger) | 3,657,000 (Talk Dirty) | 1,610,000 (Work) | 3,158,000 (Starships) | 2,854,000 (Let It Go) | 1,586,000 (Stressed Out) | 3,075,000 (Payphone) | 2,573,000 (Turn Down for What) | 1,442,000 (One Dance) | 2,892,000 (Glad You Came) | 2,533,000 (Fancy) | 1,400,000 (Can't Stop the Feeling!) | 2,885,000 (What Makes You Beautiful) | 2,321,000 (Pompeii) | 1,288,000 (PILLOWTALK) | 2,790,000 (Wild Ones) | 2,263,000 (The Man) | 1,273,000 (I Took a Pill in Ibiza) | 2,599,000 (Boyfriend) | 2,189,000 (Timber) | 1,211,000 (Panda) |
Every single #1 hit this year was a #1 hit because of streaming, bar CSTF.
I'm not arguing OD is as big as UF! because it's obviously not, but the generalization that a song was a bigger hit because it sold well..when songs sold well, and a song is an inferior hit for streaming well...when songs now stream well doesn't make any sense. Whether or not you think streaming is as impressive as sales is another story, but a song being the #1 streamed song of the year and approaching the most streamed ever on Spotify in a time where streaming matters for songs is very well a smash and impressive.
|
I think the point of matter is in retrospect Uptown Funk will be considered far superior to One Dance. I guess Billboard's Decade End Chart (2019) looks highly anticipated, with many alterations in chart components.
2000-2005 - Radio dominated (I think)
2006 - 2013 - Huge digital sales surge
2014- present - Streaming has shown exponential growth

Streaming: One Dance > Uptown Funk
Airplay: One Dance = Uptown Funk (they'll both have similar peaks)
Sales: Uptown Funk! > One Dance

UF! was a monster seller & the #1 seller of 2015 and placed Top 5 on Year End Streaming. One Dance is a monster streamer & will be the #1 streamer of 2015 and place Top 5 on Year End Sales.
It's not a "MUCH bigger monster" across all formats. A much bigger monster across all formats would be:
Streaming: UF>>> One Dance
Airplay: UF >>> One Dance
Sales: UF >>> One Dance

Who said anything about it being a "MUCH bigger monster"? Stop putting words in my posts and read what's there!
I said "Uptown Funk" was a monster on all three fronts - streaming, airplay AND sales, and I forgot to say simultaneously.
Regardless, "One Dance" is mostly #1 because of streaming. Take it away, it would be behind "Can't Stop This Feeling." Take away one component from "Uptown Funk," and you still have a smash.
Sorry, "Uptown Funk" >>>> "One Dance"

One Dance was Top 2 on Sales, Radio, and Streaming simultaneously for almost 2 months too, so
You're acting as if it's been #10 on sales and #10 on radio while #1 in streams.
Yes UF! was bigger in all departments combined and had more longevity, which is why I said it was obviously the bigger song
Anyways, the point of my post was to say a song smashing on streaming during a streaming fueled time is just as good as a song smashing on digital during a digital time. It was never even to compare UF! to OD's performance on each component.

Unless I skimmed over it, who said anything on the contrary?
Never mind, it's the typical "streaming is the future" rant.

Fifth Harmony feat. Fetty Wap, "All in My Head (Flex)"
Quote:
The quintet's follow-up to its first top five Hot 100 hit, the No. 4-peaking "Work From Home" (featuring Ty Dolla $ign), blasts 78-40 on the Hot 100, winning top Streaming Gainer honors, following the June 23 posting of its official video. The track is the top new entry on Streaming Songs at No. 32 with 7.1 million U.S. streams (up 122 percent). It's also up by 115 percent to 17,000 downloads sold and by 42 percent to 24 million in radio audience.
|
Charlie Puth feat. Selena Gomez, "We Don't Talk Anymore"
Quote:
The collab hits the Hot 100's upper half, jumping 61-49. The song gains in all metrics, lifting 49-42 on Digital Songs (22,000, up 10 percent) and rising by 22 percent to 4.4 million domestic streams and 20 percent to 23 million airplay impressions. It also pushes 24-22 on the Pop Songs airplay chart and 26-24 on Adult Pop Songs.

Yeah, OD isn't bigger than UF and maybe not even bigger than Happy which was a monster hit as well but that doesn't mean that OD isn't huge, it's kinda overlooked due to its sales but the streaming is kinda making up for it.

November 2014:
1. Party Rock Anthem
2. We Found Love
3. Somebody That I Used To Know
4. Rolling In The Deep
5. Blurred Lines
6. Call Me Maybe
7. Happy
8. Royals
9. Dark Horse
10. Moves Like Jagger
This list should shift with UF! and AATB entering (somewhere around 2/3 and 9, respectively).
Edit -- See You Again is probably top ten as well.
