To me, it DOES seems like he was trying to to reach for his gun in his pocket, but also the cop was extremely nervous and possibly unprepared. He thought he and his partner were in danger and pulled the trigger. He should lose his badge, but I don't think he deserves to be prosecuted.

The Instagram video is absolutely horrible. I've never seen something similar in my life. Again, RIP Alton. But in the Instagram video you can see he holded his right hand just for a second and then loses it, and then the cop -seems*- like he noticed he was pulling out his gun.

In the video they claim he's going for his gun, they get a hold of his hand so his hand is clearly visible.. then about 10 seconds later when his hand is STILL nowhere near the pocket that the gun was in, they murder him.

I don't wanna sound naive, but since police brutality is rather common in America, I would really like to know what kind of actions the US police has taken to prevent such things from happening?

Like, the main goal should always be to save a human life, not just killing somebody. Especially when there is no need to.

What kind of education do these police officers get? How careful is the police in general with who they are hiring?

I'm sorry for his familia and I hope he rests in peace but he had a gun in his pocket and was resisting to the arrest, the cops are trained for those cases, I'm sure things would've been different if he didn't resist.

They had already overpowered him before they shot him. It is totally legal to carry a weapon with you in Louisiana. He was no threat to them.

In response to the increased police brutality/misconduct, the use of body cameras is something that has been pushed. But according to the Baton Rouge police chief of these two officers, their body cameras somehow "fell off" when the incident occured.
