Once we leave, there will be a financial black hole in the EU's finances. Who is going to step-up? Or will Germany bankroll the entire Union?
Be thankful we are not as nationalist as Germany, or there'd be a 20%-shaped gap in your automotive industry and much fewer German cars on British roads.

Since when are Germans nationalists? What the hell are you talking about? Some of you Brits really need a reality check just like the US when it comes to everything outside of your country.
And for sure Germany will face some problems, there is no doubt about it. But our problems will be like a couple of times less than yours. We are losing one big market, but you are losing the complete EU.

I'm half-German. German people buy German, unlike the UK who are not as nationalistic in that way. I'm just talking manufacturing/industry, not nationalistic generally.

I'm also curious how that petition did, had it any impact or it just got dismissed?

It's not our fault we produce the best products along with Japan and the US.

Unless it gets more signatures than people who voted leave, nah.

Exactly. No one said EU won't feel any damage but it is NOTHING compared to what the UK will be put/is being put through already.
And LOL if you think that the EU is going to make it easy for you. They have already stated as politely as possible that they want the UK OUT immediately. You have taken your special position in the EU for granted and nobody liked that stab in the back. This referendum not only tore your country apart but it tore every main relationship it had with other EU countries. Congrats on getting your country back because that's all you gonna get from now on.

No, of course - German manufacturing is world class and dependable. The U.K. is the odd one out in not having that culture of "buying British". Germany directly benefits from that tbh.
Under EU directives, the U.K. downsized certain industries as that wasn't our role in the EU, damaging our industry for the sake of the rest of the EU. Germany, France and Italy are the car manufacturers. Our fruit and beer/hops industries took the biggest hits in that respect. Why should we hobble ourselves so that the EU can divide up trade in the way it sees fit?

We aren't being put through a lot already. 99% of people have felt little material change, and we aren't going to feel a huge change in the future, either. They're not gonna give us everything was ask for, but it's in everyone's interest to come up with a reasonable deal on both sides. The world hasn't turned upside down. Exaggerating just causes more worry, which hurts everyone.

We were always half-hearted in the EU. Be glad the EU can now continue on its quest to become a federal state without our obstruction.

You downsized your industry because you could not compete anymore and simply had to. that's why.
But to make a long story short: now you have all the freedom to do whatever you want to. Good luck with that. You have opted not to be part of the European Union and have chosen to be rather nationalist and literally on your own, since you are probably losing Scotland and Nothern Ireland on the way of achieving that goal.

The only potential outcome of that petition is that any future referendum may be given criteria for success beyond just a simple majority. The UK is leaving the EU and there is no changing that.

Nothern Ireland isn't going, and Scotland isn't a cert.

Yes, our automotive industry was flopping regardless - but the examples I gave were trying to illustrate how we have had to do things well outside of national interest to suit the EU as a whole. We are a net contributor, and that's not good enough IMO.
The UK was a hot mess even before the EU ref, with Scotland having their ref and other regions talking about splitting from UK too (Cornwall, Yorkshire, North-East England). This EU result was just the icing on the cake of disunity.

A new poll has support for Scottish independence at "just" 52%. Once the Brexit drama settles down, and reality hits that they'd be an extremely poor country having to commit to the Euro and Schengen, I'm confident they won't go for it.

I get Cornwall because of their Celtic history, but are other parts of England really talking about secession? I thought it was all a joke.

You have a 9.7% deficit, compared to 4.9% elsewhere in the UK.

Right after the Scottish referendum, yes.
Cornwall or Kernow as they would be known have wanted some sort of independence for a while but Yorkshire was new to me. They see themselves as separate which was the basis I assume. It'd never happen - tho who knows these days - but I don't think ATRL realises things weren't all rosey and perfect prior to the Brexit.
