my friend Amir is from Kosovo/Albania, he lives in Zagreb and we were in the same class in middle school. He told me that the š word is offensive, and that I should either use Albanian, Kosovanian or muslim to describe his nationality/faith

he has family in both Albania and Kosovo as far as I know

he was the only muslim in our class, and people would class his faith all types of ignorant names (kids, but their parents taught them that..) so he said don't call my religion any of those names, just muslim!

last time I talked to him, he said "thank Allah, peace be upon him", I never heard him say that before, I was so shocked because I thought he wouldn't be really religious, but I guess he is religious still

Also I have an albanian co-worker who came to Germany about a year ago. He was a total MESS at the beginning. He wouldn't drink any alcohol, he used to talk about religion all the damn time, he always used to talk trashy about women and gays especially. He would always say things like "gays will be punished by god"

Fast forward to now and he has changed completely! He now drinks beer all the time like any other person in Germany, he is way more respectful towards women and gays. He changed so much. Albanians from Kosovo are very adaptable it seems. Also he learned the language pretty fast. He doesn't even have an accent.

Yeah he is pretty intelligent, he learns pretty quickly. He is only 22 years old, I was so shocked about his religiosity when he first came though. How can a 21 year old male talk about nothing but religion? But tbh he seemed like such an outsider with a lot of complexes. At first he looked like a bag of bones. Maybe he turned to religion to feel safe.
