I honestly had a hard time picking pokemon with designs I like and usable stats as well as pokemon I haven't used before

Excluding remakes: Gen 2 (best story & post game by far) > Gen 4/Gen 3 >>> Gen 5 > Gen 1 >>> Pokemon Stadium/S2/BR/Colosseum/XD Gale of Darkness/Snap >>> Gen 6 (love 3d sprites, character customization and mega evolutions, but the main game itself is probably the only one I couldn't bring myself to finish a second time Justice for Pokemon Z )

Top 5 is basically those in my sig: King Arcanine, Prince Growlithe, (Mega) Altaria, Hydreigon, Entei. Solgaleo looks promising too, though it's typing

B&W were my least favorite games of the series. I played FireRed/Emerald/X more than any other games.
