I really thought MDNA was a near-total reassertion of the Madonna Brand when it came out and to this day I still feel that you can find pretty much every theme she's ever tackled on the album, save for brazen sexuality which would be covered on Rebel Heart.
My feelings have tempered since then, and I've come to regard MDNA as more a group of songs than the kind of cinematic, unified albums she once put out all the time. I love a lot of the songs and I'd say at least one or two are among my top 30 Madonna songs, but there's a real grab bag feel to the record and while that doesn't have to be a bad thing per se, for me it holds MDNA back from feeling like a proper Madonna album.
